「青春とは人生のある時期ではなく、心の持ち方をいう」この言葉はサミュエル・ウルマン（1840年～1924年）というドイツ出身のアメリカの詩人の言葉です
皆さんも一度はどこかで聞いたことがあるかもしれません
この言葉は詩の冒頭の一部で、その後も続きがあります
今日はこの詩をみんさんに紹介したいと思います
青春とは人生のある期間ではなく心の持ち方を云う。薔薇の面差し、紅の唇、しなやかな手足ではなく、たくましい意志、ゆたかな想像力、燃える情熱をさす。青春とは人生の深い泉の清新さをいう。青春とは臆病さを退ける勇気、安きにつく気持を振り捨てる冒険心を意味する。ときには20歳の青年よりも60歳の人に青春がある。年を重ねただけで人は老いない理想を失うとき初めて老いる。歳月は皮膚にしわを増すが、熱情は失えば心はしぼむ。苦悩・恐怖・失望により気力は地に這い精神は芥にある。60歳であろうと16歳であろうと人の胸には、驚異に惹かれる心、おさなごのような未知への探求心、人生への興味の歓喜がある。君にも吾にも見えざる駅逓が心にある。人から神から美・希望・喜び・勇気・力の霊感をうける限り君は若い。霊感が絶え、精神が皮肉の雪に覆われ悲嘆の氷に閉ざされるとき、２０歳であろうと人は老いる。頭を高く上げ希望の波をとらえる限り、８０歳であろうと人は青春にして已む。

We grow old by deserting our ideals.Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles soul.Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every being's heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing child-like appetite of what's next, and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is wireless station, so long as it receives message of beauty, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at twenty, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch the waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at eighty.
毎日の生活に理想を失い、日々を漫然と過ごしがちになっていましますが、こうした詩を読み返し、自分に言い聞かせて、情熱に再点火していきたいですね
経験を積み、年を取ってくると、どうしても臆病になっていきます
何かにチャレンジする気持ちも失われていき、現状維持を求めようとします
しかし、そんな心境になる事が、きっと老いていっているのだと思います
いつまでも青春を生きていくべきですね

夏至の日にピッタリの詩です。
ヨットで大西洋横断した堀江鎌一さんも「死ぬまでチャレンジ」と言っていたことを思い出しました。心打たれました。そしてそのような生き方をされているので顔つきも精悍な顔をされていて違います。
私は最近チャレンジをあまりしていないと思いました。
チャレンジをしている人生の方があの世の方たちに喜ばれそうです。
人生後悔しないように頑張らなくちゃ！と思いました。
